WHOPPER SALAD
1 pound lean ground beef
salt and pepper to taste
4 slices favorite loaf bread
olive oil spray
sesame seeds
4 cups chopped lettuce
3 small tomatoes
1/2 onion, quartered and sliced
4 mini dill pickles, sliced into thin rounds
8 tablespoons favorite mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
To make burgers shape the ground beef into 4 4-ounce patties and salt and pepper them to taste.
For best results most like Burger King grill them on an outdoor grill to get that smoky, grilled flavor.
Be sure to undercook them if making for meal prep so they will not dry out when you reheat them during the week.
If outdoor grilling is not possible I would try pan frying to brown on both sides. Then add a little liquid smoke
and water to the pan, cover and simmer to allow the smoke flavor to get into the meat. Again undercook them if for prep.
You may also try adding a little liquid smoke to the meat before you patty it out and cook it. Or you may just leave out
the liquid smoke all together. Store covered in the fridge until needed.
To make the croutons cut bread into small cubes and place on a large baking sheet. Spray evenly with olive oil spray,
toss then spray once more. Top liberally with sesame seeds. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until done to your
desired crunchiness. I baked mine at 5 minute intervals stirring at each one. Store covered at room temperature.
For the dressing simply stir together the mayonnaise and ketchup until smooth. Store in the fridge.
To serve start with 1 cup cut up lettuce and top with tomatoes, onions and pickles. The top with one warmed
hamburger patty that has been cut into bite sized pieces and 1/4 of the croutons. Top with 1/4 (a little over
2 tablespoons) of the dressing.
