FRENCH TOAST CASSEROLE

12 slices bread, cut into cubes
2 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon butter
8 eggs
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons powdered sugar, or to taste
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 teaspoons vanilla
pinch salt

Spread bread cubes into bottom of a greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish.  In a separate bowl whisk together cream cheese
and butter until smooth.  Add 2 or 3 eggs and whisk until completely combined and no lumps remain.  Add the rest of the
eggs and whisk until smooth then whisk in milk.  Add remaining ingredients and whisk until completely incorporated.
Pour over bread cubes.  Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until center springs back when you press down.  Allow to cool a bit
before serving.  Serve with syrup.  Makes 6 servings
